The Assistant Patrol Director will support the Patrol Director with managing and assigning all bike patrol operations, to ensure the bike park and summer operations are maintained in an efficient, well organized, and enjoyable environment while consistently greeting and engaging our guests and prompting a fun and friendly atmosphere. Snowmass Bike Patrol is responsible for providing on-mountain first aid and transportation of injured guests to definitive medical care. Patrol is also responsible for ensuring all trails are marked and maintained to the highest standards to provide a fun and enjoyable experience for our guests and employees. This position reports to the Director of Patrol.

- The budgeted salary range for this position is $75,000 - $87,000. Actual pay will be dependent on budget and experience, all our salaried roles are eligible for bonus.
Essential Job Functions/Key Job Responsibilities
- Assist Director in overseeing all aspects of daily operations of mountain, in coordination with department supervisors and leads. Responsible for teamwork and coordination of all Summer Ranger’s responsibilities and expectations as outlined in various patrol job descriptions
- Encourage and inspire opportunities to enhance guest experiences, and initiate guest contact
- Ensure open terrain is safe
- Have awareness of medical/legal consequences and the vulnerability of the company to possible litigation arising from the nature of the industry. Care and transportation of injured parties as necessary
- Assist with trail safety activities, sand conduct regular trail maintenance including preparing trail openings and closures
- Evaluate patroller performance throughout the season, support staffing decisions including hiring and termination, and ensure accurate employee pay, completion of ASC training, and assistance with scheduling as needed
- Maintain thorough knowledge of lift operations and evacuation procedures, participating in evacuations as needed, and possess a strong understanding of the mountain's trails, lifts, communication systems, traffic patterns, and potential hazards.
- Coordinate and communicate with other departments regarding issues and events impacting mountain operations, and collaborate with government agencies as required
- Lead or delegate staff training and evaluations, provide performance coaching as needed, and complete all related documentation in a timely manner
- Provide operational communication will all patrollers
- Collaborate with the Director to manage and plan the budgeting process, track spending, and annually update job descriptions
Education & Experience Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Minimum of Outdoor Emergency Care or EMT with current American Heart Association CPR certification
- Minimum of 5 year as a patroller
- Expert skier in all terrain in all weather conditions
- Proficiency in setting up and maintaining remote weather stations.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in a leadership role preferred
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Demonstrates expertise in the technical aspect of the job
- Ability to lead, manage, and mentor a team
- Complete knowledge of the Skiers Safety Act regarding marking of ski area boundaries and trail closures
- Current knowledge of tramway board regulations and state-of-the art evacuation techniques and equipment
- Proficient knowledge of industry trends and best practices
- Knowledge of company policies and procedures
- Ability to work in collaboration with others to achieve team goals
- Follows all safety policies and procedures and exercises caution when working
- Ability to develop strong working relationship with those contacted in the course of work
- Ability to notice and address small discrepancies in work or customer feedback
- Ability to engage with customers in a positive and helpful manner
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, completing work at a high standard
- Expert skier or biker in all terrain in all weather conditions
- Able to work in adverse weather conditions for extended periods of time
Work Environment and Physical Demands
- · Ability to reach, crouch, kneel, stand, bend or be on your feet for extended periods of time
- · Regularly work in wet, cold, hot conditions requiring the use of protective apparel/equipment to prevent exposure to the elements and may be required to walk on slippery and uneven surfaces
- · Must be able to frequently lift, push or pull up to 50 lbs. individually or with assistance (weight limits can vary according to position, but no more than 50)
