Senior Data Scientist / Research Staff at Deepgram, a leading voice AI platform. The role focuses on solving hard data problems and exploring research frontiers in conversational audio, building scalable data-driven solutions, and translating research into production features in a fast, AI-first environment.

Qualification

  • Demonstrated experience solving hard data problems and performing research at the intersection of data science and AI, with a proven track record of impact.
  • Strong background in data science / machine learning with hands-on model development and evaluation experience.
  • Proficiency in Python and experience with ML frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow, plus libraries like pandas and numpy.
  • Experience working with large-scale, real-world data sets; ability to design robust experiments and reproduce results.
  • Familiarity with audio processing or speech data is a plus; willingness to work with audio data.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, AI-first environment; excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Experience translating research into production features; ability to work with engineers to deploy models and monitor performance.
  • Publication record or conference presentations is a plus.

Responsibility

  • Lead and execute applied research in data science for conversational audio, addressing challenging data problems and advancing frontier research in audio AI.
  • Develop, evaluate, and iterate models for speech processing tasks (speech-to-text, text-to-speech, and related audio understanding) with robust experimental design.
  • Build scalable data pipelines and infrastructure to support research, experimentation, and production deployment at scale.
  • Collaborate with engineers, ML researchers, data engineers, and product teams to translate research findings into production features and improvements.
  • Analyze large, diverse audio datasets; manage data quality, labeling strategies, and privacy considerations.
  • Prototype new algorithms and representations to overcome data scarcity and diversity challenges in real-world audio.
  • Communicate results through internal presentations, documentation, and knowledge-sharing; contribute to publications when appropriate.
  • Mentor junior researchers and contribute to team growth and recruitment.
