Grindr is seeking a Staff Backend Engineer for its Trust & Safety team, based in Chicago or the Bay Area. This hybrid role involves leading projects, optimizing backend services, and collaborating with product teams to enhance platform features. Qualification
- 7+ years of experience as a Software Engineer focusing on Backend Systems
- Experience designing and implementing large-scale API systems in a microservice architecture
- Proficient in using AWS for cloud services
- Strong passion for testing software and systems
- Deep understanding of concurrency concepts and trade-offs
- Experience with JVM languages such as Java, Kotlin, or Scala
- Experience in designing and productionizing large-scale distributed systems
Responsibility
- Lead projects and engineers to implement new features in collaboration with product and design teams
- Design and develop Grindr's backend services in a scalable microservices architecture
- Refine feature design and functionality with Product Managers, Designers, and Engineers
- Optimize Grindr's platform using Redis, Postgres, and Kafka on AWS
- Guide data-driven decisions to adopt new technologies and workflows
- Maintain high availability of the platform through distributed systems and infrastructure engineering
- Mentor team members through pairing sessions, code reviews, and architecture reviews
