The role involves owning the thermal design and analysis for advanced defense technologies such as drones, aircraft, or missiles, utilizing principles of heat transfer and fluid dynamics to ensure performance and reliability.
Qualification
- In-depth understanding of heat transfer and fluid dynamics.
- Experience with thermal design and analysis in aerospace or defense applications.
- Proficiency in MATLAB and Python for modeling and analysis.
- Ability to perform thermal FEA/CFD analysis.
- Strong communication skills for presenting technical information to stakeholders.
Responsibility
- Own the thermal design and analysis of a drone, aircraft, or missile.
- Use first principles for decision-making and apply appropriate levels of analysis, including hand calculations and MATLAB/Python models.
- Define thermal architecture for rugged environments and demanding flight envelopes, analyzing edge cases based on industry standards.
- Collaborate with engineers from other disciplines to document power dissipations under various operating modes.
- Communicate the pros and cons of system architecture concerning thermal considerations.
- Manage thermal FEA/CFD models to predict system performance and define design limits for testing and operation.
- Execute prototype builds and tests to verify thermal designs, including CAD work and data analysis.
- Present thermal status at formal reviews and provide updates on timelines and technical status.
- Develop internal tools to enhance analysis effectiveness and efficiency.
- Support failure reviews and root-cause analysis with test data and thermal analysis.
