The role involves managing thermal architecture, conducting tests, and collaborating with vendors to ensure optimal performance in space environments.
Qualification
- BS, MS, or higher degree in engineering, applied physics, or hard science.
- Demonstrated knowledge of heat transfer in academic and/or professional settings.
- Proficiency in Thermal Desktop or equivalent thermal simulation software.
- Experience with thermal analysis and testing methodologies.
- Strong communication skills for presenting technical information to internal and external stakeholders.
Responsibility
- Own the thermal design, analysis, test, and associated component vendor management of a space hardware development program.
- Use first principles for decision-making and apply appropriate levels of analysis, including hand calculations and MATLAB/Python models.
- Define thermal architecture to withstand space environments and quantify edge cases affecting the system.
- Communicate the pros and cons of system architecture regarding thermal considerations.
- Present thermal status at formal reviews and provide clear timelines and technical status to stakeholders.
- Develop internal tools to enhance analysis effectiveness and efficiency.
- Prepare and execute thermal tests to inform analysis and mitigate risks on hardware assemblies.
- Create a database of materials, thermal properties, and vendors for thermal hardware used in space.
