Senior Software Engineer - AI Code Gen - Agent Engineer
Datadog
Datadog is hiring a product-minded senior backend engineer to build AI-assisted developer tools focused on LLM-based agents that autonomously generate tests, fix bugs, and improve performance. You'll define prompts, evaluation pipelines, and tooling, productionize AI features, and integrate with Datadog products in a hybrid work environment.
Qualification
- 5+ years of professional backend engineering experience (Go, Java, or Python) with a track record of shipping software that uses LLMs to production.
- Passion for Generative AI and its ability to boost software engineer productivity.
- Relevant experience with LLMs, large-scale systems and data sets, machine learning, or adjacent fields.
- Strong communicator and community ambassador who can steer technical conversations toward pragmatic solutions.
- Experience in fast-growth startup environments and the ability to work across cross-functional teams (engineers, designers, PMs, data scientists).
- Experience building developer tools (IDEs, static code analysis tools, or compilers).
- Demonstrated ability to productionize AI systems, prompts, and eval pipelines and to integrate with complex product ecosystems.
Responsibility
- Collaborate with users, designers, PMs, and data scientists to design cutting-edge LLM-based agents.
- Develop prompts, evals, and agent tooling for code-related tasks; productionize these systems and integrate them with Datadog products.
- Prototype quickly, validate with real users, iterate based on feedback, and ship features.
- Stay up-to-date with research on LLM prompting, agents, and code editing, and apply insights to the product and engineering roadmap.
- Coordinate with other Datadog teams to expand capabilities (e.g., Datadog IDE extensions for a Copilot-like assistant, Dynamic Instrumentation for runtime data collection).
- Build and maintain robust backend services in Go/Java/Python with emphasis on performance and scalability; ensure reliable production deployments.
- Influence product direction and advocate for an excellent developer experience, driving technical discussions toward pragmatic solutions.
