Monarch Crops
Monarch is seeking a Computational Chemist to lead molecular modeling efforts aimed at predicting insect responses to olfactory stimuli. This full-time, on-site role in Oakland, CA, involves developing computational models, conducting quantum mechanical calculations, and analyzing data to validate machine-learning-predicted compounds. The position reports to the Chief Technology Officer and contributes to the development of a spatial repellent product that protects crops and reduces reliance on harmful insecticides.
Qualification
- PhD or Master's degree + 7 years industrial experience in biophysics, biochemistry, chemistry, engineering, or equivalent with a computational emphasis
- Skilled in scientific programming (e.g. Python), data analytics, and reporting (experience with Pandas, NumPy, Jupyter)
- Proficiency in advanced molecular modeling techniques and associated software (e.g. docking, molecular dynamics simulations)
- Experience with cheminformatics tools (Open Babel, RDKit) and basic machine learning/AI applications in computational chemistry
- Strong work ethic and ability to work in a creative, fast-paced environment
Responsibility
- Develop and apply computational models to predict molecular interactions between compounds and olfactory receptors
- Conduct quantum mechanical calculations, molecular docking, and dynamics simulations
- Analyze data from computational experiments to prioritize compounds for lab and field validation
- Lead molecular modeling efforts to validate machine-learning predictions
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize product development
