Abacus is a startup focused on revolutionizing accounting operations through AI agents that automate workflows. They are seeking a Founding Engineer to enhance their machine learning engine, work closely with co-founders, and contribute to the company's growth from their NYC office.
Qualification
- 1–5 years of experience in high-ownership or early-stage environments
- Strong backend development skills, particularly in Python
- Proven experience as a 0→1 builder (side projects, startup experience, or both)
- Willingness to work from the NYC office, 5 days/week
- Willingness to complete a technical take-home exercise
Responsibility
- Improve and scale the ML extraction engine using LLMs and OCR
- Own backend architecture and infrastructure decisions
- Build and ship greenfield features to expand automated workflows
- Lead development of the ML-powered document extraction engine
- Collaborate closely with founders on product and user needs
- Help define the engineering culture and technical roadmap
