Redwood Materials
Power Systems Engineer, Energy Storage at Redwood Materials. Join a fast-growing company building and integrating battery energy storage systems and battery materials in the U.S. You will design and specify the power system controls for site controllers and inverters, shape system and plant-level control architecture, and collaborate across product, controls, and operations to advance the energy transition.
Qualification
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
- 5+ years of experience in power systems, energy storage, or grid-connected applications.
- Strong knowledge of energy storage architectures, inverter controls, and site/controller interfaces.
- Experience translating system requirements into controller specifications and validating controller implementations.
- Proficiency in data analysis and scripting (e.g., Python) to support design validation and performance optimization.
- Experience with modeling/simulation and system performance analysis relevant to power electronics and control systems.
- Familiarity with safety, reliability, and grid interconnection standards; ability to contribute to compliance efforts.
- Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills; ability to work in a fast-paced environment and travel to project sites as needed.
Responsibility
- Work with the product and controls design teams to translate power system requirements into site controller and inverter controller specifications, influencing system and plant-level control architecture.
- Develop and validate control strategies for energy storage systems, including battery management, inverter controls, and grid interconnections.
- Model, simulate, and assess power system performance to inform design decisions and optimize system behavior.
- Define hardware and software specifications for site controllers and inverters; collaborate with electrical and software teams to implement those specs.
- Lead testing, commissioning, and performance verification of storage systems at pilot and commercial sites.
- Ensure safety, reliability, and grid interconnection standards are met; document requirements and support compliance activities.
- Collaborate with operations and field teams for deployment, monitoring, and ongoing optimization of installations.
- Provide technical mentorship and support to junior engineers and cross-functional teams.
