SpaceX is seeking a Sr. Automation & Controls Engineer for its Starship project, which aims to develop a fully reusable transportation system for space exploration. The role involves designing and implementing automated solutions for Starship production, working with a talented team of engineers.
Qualification
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
- Experience with PLC programming and debugging.
- Knowledge of industrial electrical control panel design and compliance standards.
- Experience in developing automated manufacturing systems and robot systems.
- Familiarity with HMI design and implementation.
- Strong understanding of safety standards related to automation and controls.
- Ability to manage projects, schedules, and budgets effectively.
- Hands-on experience with electrical and electromechanical components.
Responsibility
- Participate in initial equipment conceptual development balancing specifications, process requirements, layout complexity, cost, and lead-time limits.
- Lay out new industrial electrical control panels compliant with NFPA79/NEC/UL508A and create electrical, pneumatic, and fluid schematics.
- Architect, write, and debug PLC code for manufacturing applications, ensuring it is organized, structured, documented, maintainable, and reusable.
- Develop robot systems for automated manufacturing of vehicle sub-components.
- Implement control reliable safety systems compliant with ANSI/RIA15.06/OSHA for safeguarding robots and manufacturing equipment.
- Generate HMI screens for complex machinery, providing feedback for troubleshooting.
- Manage electrical cabinet builds, field wiring, pneumatic and fluid plumbing.
- Select and size electrical and electromechanical components such as servo motors and controllers.
- Deploy automated processes and equipment into production.
- Set, implement, and maintain schedules and budgets for project completion.
