SpaceX is seeking a Structural Engineer for the Starship Structural Test team, responsible for testing and designing large steel and concrete structures to support the development of technologies for human life on Mars. The role involves both individual contributions and technical leadership in structural engineering.
Qualification
- Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline
- 2+ years of experience in engineering composite steel and concrete structural systems
- Advanced degree in aerospace, civil/structural, mechanical engineering, or related field (preferred)
- Experience with nonlinear structural analysis for steel and concrete systems
- Licensed Structural Engineering (SE) or Professional Engineering (PE)
- Knowledge of AISC, ACI code 318, ASCE 7, and IBC
- Familiarity with ETABS, SAP2000, S-Concrete, ANSYS, FEMAP, or similar analysis design programs
Responsibility
- Contribute technical expertise in the design, analysis, and fabrication of large composite steel and concrete structures
- Develop test structures from conception in collaboration with vehicle and test engineers
- Consider boundary conditions, load paths, and stiffness in designs that interact with rocket structures
- Plan fabrication and provide on-site support for structural projects
- Architect and perform detailed design and analysis on structures to apply flight-like loads to test articles
