Senior Manager, Model Governance and Data Standards at Airwallex, leading the governance framework for ML models and data standards within the Legal, Risk & Compliance team. Responsible for independent testing/validation, regulatory compliance, and ethical use of data and models across a global payments platform.
Qualification
- Proven experience in model governance, model risk management, or data governance in financial services or regulated industries
- Experience designing and implementing governance frameworks, policies, and procedures for models and data
- Strong understanding of model risk management concepts including validation, monitoring, and documentation
- Knowledge of data governance concepts such as data quality, lineage, metadata, and data standards
- Familiarity with regulatory requirements related to data privacy and financial services (privacy, GDPR or equivalent) and translating them into governance controls
- Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills (with Legal, Risk & Compliance, data science, engineering)
- Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field; advanced degree or professional certifications in risk, governance, or data (e.g., FRM, CRISC) are a plus
- Ability to operate in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment with strong analytical and leadership capabilities
Responsibility
- Create and maintain a comprehensive risk model register and model inventory
- Develop, implement, and enforce model governance policies and procedures, including model definition, testing, validation, and ongoing monitoring
- Establish independent testing and validation mechanisms to ensure models meet business needs and risk appetite
- Oversee data standards governance including data quality controls, data lineage, and metadata management for models and data assets
- Ensure regulatory compliance and ethical use of models; collaborate with Legal, Risk & Compliance; support audits
- Lead cross-functional collaboration with data science, data engineering, risk, compliance, and product teams; communicate governance outcomes to leadership
- Develop governance training and awareness programs and build dashboards/metrics for ongoing monitoring
- Drive continuous improvement of the governance framework and adapt to regulatory changes
