Skydio, a leading US drone company specializing in autonomous flight technology, is seeking an Electric Motor / Propulsion Engineer to model, architect, optimize, and refine electric propulsion systems for their drones. This hybrid role requires 3+ days a week at their San Mateo, CA headquarters.
Qualification
- Strong mathematical and physical understanding of motor power and loss mechanisms
- Excellent knowledge of finite element method
- Experience in electric motor loss characterization
- Knowledge of motor thermal modeling
- Ability to model and optimize propulsion systems from ESCs to motors to propellers
Responsibility
- Model, architect, and optimize electric propulsion systems for drones
- Analyze motor power and loss mechanisms using strong mathematical and physical understanding
- Utilize finite element method for motor design and analysis
- Conduct motor thermal modeling and loss characterization
- Apply motor control theory to enhance propulsion system performance
