Waymo, an autonomous driving technology company, seeks a Senior Data Scientist to enhance the performance evaluation of its autonomous vehicle systems. The role involves developing evaluation frameworks, metrics, and statistical methods to ensure safety and quality in autonomous driving. The position is hybrid and reports to a data science manager.
Qualification
- Degree in a quantitative field (e.g. Statistics, Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science).
- Experience with statistical modeling and data analysis.
- Proficiency in machine learning techniques and frameworks.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to frame ambiguous problems.
- Excellent communication skills for conveying complex data insights to stakeholders.
- Experience in mentoring and providing technical feedback to peers.
Responsibility
- Develop evaluation frameworks for autonomous vehicle performance and large-scale ML models.
- Create new metrics, interpret trends, and investigate anomalies in simulation and on-road driving data.
- Develop novel statistical methods for unique aspects of autonomous vehicle data.
- Frame and solve ambiguous problems by scoping technical priorities and innovating on statistical methods.
- Derive data-driven conclusions and communicate findings to senior stakeholders.
- Establish yourself as the point-of-contact for significant project areas, using data to drive technical decisions.
- Collaborate with Product and Engineering partners on the Waymo Driver and simulation software.
- Mentor other data scientists and provide constructive technical feedback.
