Waymo is seeking a Systems Engineer for its Sensing team to lead the development and validation of sensing and perception systems for autonomous vehicles. The role involves collaboration across hardware, software, and safety teams to ensure high performance and safety standards. Candidates should have a strong background in engineering or physics, with experience in systems engineering and data analysis.
Qualification
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, physics or related technical field
- An advanced degree OR at least 5 years of applicable experience
- Familiarity with robotics, sensing, or perception technologies
- Experience with system engineering fundamentals: requirements definition, system design and architecture, trade studies, and verification and validation methods
- Experience working on large, complex systems and navigating ambiguity with multiple stakeholders
- Experience analyzing data using Python or other high level language
Responsibility
- Lead the sign-off of sensing and perception systems for deployment in a manner that upholds safety
- Propose requirements based on understanding of sensing and perception technologies and systems engineering principles
- Drive consensus on requirements with hardware, software, product, and safety teams
- Evaluate and analyze system performance, coordinating with test engineering teams
- Identify and assess performance gaps, making data-driven recommendations to improve the system
- Perform system-level trade studies and evaluate future sensor architectures
