Epic Games is seeking an experienced Concept Outsource Lead to supervise outsourced concept art for Fortnite in collaboration with Disney. The role combines hands-on concept art with vendor management, providing front-line creative feedback, ensuring art direction, and maintaining high-quality, game-ready assets within established pipelines.
Qualification
- Proven experience as a concept artist with hands-on art background in game studios, proficient across environments, characters, and FX.
- Experience supervising outsource partners and coordinating with Outsource Managers and Art Leads.
- Strong ability to communicate art direction, provide constructive feedback, and document pipelines and production guidelines.
- Ability to collect/create quality references, mood boards, paint-overs, and technical example assets to guide external vendors.
- Solid understanding of world-building and game-art pipelines, with a track record of delivering concept art that supports production needs.
- Experience ensuring assets are technically game-ready and align with engine requirements and project standards.
- Excellent collaboration skills to work with multiple teams and external partners in a fast-paced, creative environment.
Responsibility
- Work closely with Epic Art Leads, project Art Director, Outsource Manager, and artists to support external vendors.
- Communicate the art direction vision to vendors and ensure the art generated is consistent in tone and meets Epic's high standards.
- Create various concept designs for environments, characters, and FX within the Fortnite ecosystem.
- Collect or generate detailed documentation, video references, and examples of asset production, procedures, and engine requirements to support external vendors.
- Provide front-line creative feedback (paint-overs, mood boards, photo references) and ensure assets stay technically game-ready as they’re handed off from outsourcing partners.
- Review outsourced work, implement needed fixes to maintain consistency and alignment with project goals, and facilitate smooth handoffs into production pipelines.
- Collaborate with other teams at Epic to ensure concept art adequately supports project needs and integrates with engine workflows.
