Epic Games is seeking an experienced Concept Outsource Lead to supervise external concept art suppliers as part of a Disney collaboration. The role combines hands-on concept art with vendor management, providing front-line creative feedback, ensuring art direction, maintaining pipelines, and producing high-quality concept designs for environments, characters, and FX within the Fortnite ecosystem. The candidate should have game studio pipeline experience, strong communication skills, and the ability to document workflows, mood boards, reference assets, and technical asset requirements to support outsourced work.
Qualification
- Proven experience as a concept artist in game development with hands-on art background across world-building, environment, character, and FX art.
- Experience working with outsource partners or external vendors and strong vendor management/communication skills.
- Solid understanding of art direction and ability to translate it into high-quality concept work.
- Proficiency in creating concept art, mood boards, photo references, paint-overs, and asset production documentation.
- Ability to document pipelines and engine requirements; collect or create technical example assets.
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills; ability to work with Epic Art Leads, Directors, and Outsource Manager.
- Familiarity with game development pipelines and asset handoff processes; ability to iterate quickly to maintain game-readiness.
- Portfolio demonstrating concept art for environments, characters, FX within a large-scale game project.
Responsibility
- Work closely with Epic Art Leads, project Art Director, Outsource Manager, and artists to support external vendors.
- Communicate the art direction to vendors and ensure the art generated is consistent in tone and meets Epic's high standards.
- Create concept designs for environments, characters, and FX that exist within the Fortnite ecosystem.
- Collect or generate detailed documentation, video references, and examples of asset production, procedures, and engine requirements to support external vendors.
- Provide front-line creative feedback for work submitted for Epic review and guide revisions as needed.
- Supervise outsource partners to ensure asset quality and pipeline compliance; collaborate with internal teams to align on project goals.
- If required, make fixes to keep assets consistent and technically game-ready as they’re handed off from the outsource partner.
- Document pipelines, best practices, mood boards, photo references, paint-overs, and asset requirements.
